TeamMates Welcomes New Coordinator

TeamMates Welcomes New Coordinator

My name is Megan Detjens and I am so excited to step into the role of TeamMates Program Coordinator for the Bennington Public Schools Chapter. My family moved to Bennington in 2018 and we have loved becoming more and more involved with our community. My husband Andrew and I have three children: Baylor (8th grade), Cohen (6th grade) and Gabi (3rd grade). When I learned of the opportunity to serve in this capacity, I just KNEW that it was a perfect fit for me. I am currently in my third year as TeamMates Mentor for Omaha Public schools. Previously, I was involved In Partnership for Kids Mentoring Program and served the Greater Omaha area, through a Community Outreach role with the Maple Street YMCA branch. I cannot wait to learn and continue to celebrate what makes Bennington TeamMates so great!

We are facing a very interesting and different start to the school year. Covid 19 has changed the course of so many things for our students, our educators, our supporters and our families. It is even more important for us to BE THERE during these extenuating circumstances. Sadly, at this time, our Matches will not be able to meet face to face. TeamMates is DEDICATED to maintaining consistency, as we look into the 2020/2021 school year. We will be brainstorming all the ways to safely foster the existing and newly forming Matches.

A few ways that we plan to do this:

  •         By utilizing the TeamMates messaging system, where Mentors and Mentees can participate in supervised email communications.
  •         Creating a virtual Mentoring experience, using Google Meet on school issued devices.
  •         Through handwritten notes or artwork that can be delivered by the TeamMates Coordinator and team.

I know that there will be a lot of questions surrounding these options and I thank you in advance, while we review all options and provide more detailed information as TeamMates is able to finalize. As in the past school years, Match “Meetings” will kick off after Labor Day, the week of Monday, ‪September 7th. ‬

In closing, I would LOVE to take this opportunity to celebrate Mr. Turner and the SIX years he has so wonderfully dedicated to successfully leading the BPS TeamMates Chapter. His passion and love for this program, our students and our community is incredible and will be impossible for me to duplicate, but I promise to do my best in his honor. We thank you, Mr. Turner, you are TRULY one in a million! Going forward, I am thankful that I have been given this opportunity to impact the Bennington Community in the very best ways- through TeamMates Mentoring.
