Meet Emily Buer, a 5th grader at Bennington Elementary who’s combining creativity with compassion. For the second year in a row, Emily has been hand-making beaded, badger-themed bracelets and selling them at Earl & Gray year-round. From these sales, Emily donates a portion of her earnings to the Student Lunch Balance Fund, which helps families facing meal affordability challenges by covering outstanding lunch balances. This year alone, Emily crafted about 1,500 bracelets, contributing an impressive $850 to the fund.
Emily’s journey began with last year’s Taylor Swift bracelet trend, sparking her love for crafting. What started as a fun hobby quickly turned into a purposeful project when Emily decided to dedicate part of her proceeds to charity. With her parents’ support—who cover the cost of materials as long as she continues giving back—Emily has grown into a young entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Her inspiring initiative not only helps her peers but also highlights the power of youth-driven change. Thank you, Emily, for being a shining example of generosity and leadership in our community!
