Bennington Elementary 5th grade students recently took an unforgettable trip to the UNO Planetarium, thanks to one-time funding from the BPS Foundation. Organized by 5th-grade teacher Alyssa Callaghan, the visit allowed students to apply their classroom knowledge of Earth and sky patterns learned through their Amplify Science curriculum in an immersive setting.
“This grant made an incredible difference,” Callaghan shared. “Typically, we’re only allotted two field trips a year paid by the school and PTO, which made this special opportunity possible. The students were amazed, and hearing their collective ‘WOW’ when we arrived was priceless!”
During their planetarium visit, students explored the scale of the universe and saw the concepts they learned in class come to life. They were able to visualize patterns in the night sky and deepen their understanding of Earth’s position in the solar system. For these young learners, it was a firsthand experience in real-world science that enriched their academic journey and ignited a sense of wonder for the cosmos.
