BPS Elementary classrooms have the use of the Outdoor Classrooms built into current curriculum for Sciences, Art and Reading.
Through the Project/One-Time Funding program, Heritage PTO was able to expand their Outdoor Classroom space making it more functional for hands-on-learning.
“Heritage is currently the only elementary school in Bennington that has added planter boxes to their Outdoor Classroom,” said Mandy Evert, PTO President, “Because it adds multiple dimensions to hands-on-learning, the aim of this project is to make the planter boxes more functional and provide a means for students in class and Garden Club to maintain and cultivate while fostering a culture of responsible stewardship of the space.”
The Foundation provided funds for mulch, topsoil and tools for the outdoor planter boxes, seeds and starter pots and a beloved - “highly-needed and beloved” - permanent trash can for this outdoor learning space for students to learn in now and for years to come.
Heritage PTO plans to continue actively soliciting other large-scale grants to enhance the Outdoor Classroom space to include Music and Agriculture curriculum.
“We have been very intentional about designing our space so that it can be used and enjoyed by students of all abilities and we are passionate about ensuring that this space is utilized fully for many years to come,” said Mandy, “We can’t thank the Foundation enough for its support.”
