October 7, 2021 – Bennington Elementary students experienced an exciting way to bring music and P.E. classes together through Cardio Drumming. Music teacher Elizabeth Schaffart and Physical Education teacher Ryan Johanek applied for funding through the Bennington Public Schools Foundation’s Classroom Grant Program last spring in hopes to bring the skills students learn in these two classes together. April 28, 2021 – The Bennington Public Schools Foundation hosted its 21st Annual Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 18, at Bennington High School to recognize scholarship recipients and “Of the Year” Award winners. Read more >>
April 7, 2021 – Bennington students are learning basic coding skills in a hands-on way thanks to the Classroom Grant “Turing Tumbles,” requested by HAL teachers Abby Fitzgerald and David Porter. These marble powered computers use marbles, levels, and switches to mimic a computer board. They are used to teach basic coding, programming and the decision making process that computers use when sorting through data. Read more >>
March 9, 2021 – In 2020, the Bennington Public Schools Foundation’s Teacher Professional Development Program assisted three elementary teachers in the district in taking graduate courses online. Jennifer Flynn, (4th grade teacher at Anchor Pointe Elementary), Alex Saunders (5th grade teacher at Anchor Pointe Elementary), and Taryn Wilhelms (1st grade teacher at Bennington Elementary) received partial funding for the course “Number and Operations for K-3 Mathematics Teachers” through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. December 15, 2020 – It’s 3:30 on a Thursday afternoon and several students head to Mr. William Deardoff’s room for Robotics Club. Each team begins work on their respective robot, with laughs being had and music playing in the background. For many students, it’s just the activity they’ve been looking for that captures their interest and enhances their strengths. “We are really excited to have a lot of students involved in robotics for their first time,” Deardoff said. June 30, 2020 – The Bennington Public Schools Foundation awarded 41 graduating seniors with scholarships in 2020. Ranging from $500 to $2,000, the 2020 Foundation scholarships totaled $46,000. April 17, 2020 – The TeamMates Mentoring Program began in 1991 with the vision of University of Nebraska Head Football Coach Tom Osborne and his wife, Nancy. Coach Osborne felt that the athletes in his program could make an impact on middle school students, and 22 football players began meeting with middle school students in the Lincoln Public Schools. More than 170 people of all ages participated in either a 1 mile or 4 mile run and raised $3,601 for the Bennington Public Schools Foundation’s Student & Family Impact Program. Read more >>

May 28, 2019 – Born and raised in Bennington, Nancy Mohr attended Bennington schools from Kindergarten through graduation in 1974. After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Vocational Home Economics in 1978, she started teaching at Bennington in the fall of 1979, making her career here 40 years long. That’s what eight French students from Bennington, as well as students from Brownell Talbot, Westside, Mercy, and Lincoln East to name a few did at Auberge, the French immersion field-trip on March 30-31. May 8, 2019 –Anytime Fitness in Bennington and Three Timbers Church will host the fourth annual Spy Run during Bennington Daze at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, at Bennington High School. Proceeds from the run will be donated to the Bennington Public Schools Foundation’s Student and Family Impact Program and will support suicide prevention and awareness initiatives in the district. How long have you been the TeamMates Coordinator and why were you interested in leading this program at Bennington? Approximately 4 1/2 years. Our TeamMates chapter was founded in the fall of 2014 and we formed our first match in January of 2015. As an educator it was my belief that some students would benefit from additional adult interaction. When this opportunity came to me I wanted to help provide this extra support for students.
