Nancy Mohr Retires After 40 Years at Bennington

Born and raised in Bennington, Nancy Mohr attended Bennington schools from Kindergarten through graduation in 1974. After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Vocational Home Economics in 1978, she started teaching at Bennington in the fall of 1979, making her career here 40 years long. She also received her master’s degree from UNL in Interdepartmental Home Economics in 1997.

Nancy has been married to her high school sweetheart, Van Mohr, for 42 years and the couple has three children: Mandy (Cody), Mallory, and Jacob (Emily). They also have two grandchildren: Karac and Cora.

Like her father, who was school board president for many years, and her mother, who was one of the first female bus drivers at Bennington, Nancy has served the school district in many capacities. Throughout her time teaching, she worked hundreds of sporting events, assisted at numerous homecoming dances and proms, served as assistant volleyball and girls’ basketball coach, sponsored the wrestling cheerleaders, served on numerous committees, and held the position of PST coordinator. She and Larry Klaus also initiated the program of teaching middle school students in the module format.

As lifelong members of the Bennington community, Nancy’s three brothers, as well as their seven children, all graduated from BHS. Her grandson, Karac, will also start Kindergarten at Bennington this fall.
