Bunz Family Creates Endowed Scholarship

As long time Bennington residents and business owners, Lee and Kathy Bunz planned to give back to the Bennington community and make an impact for years to come. This led them to create the Lee & Kathy Bunz Endowed Scholarship Fund with a $50,000 gift to the Bennington Public Schools Foundation.

A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded each year through this fund to a Bennington High School graduating senior. The recipient should display strong character while excelling in academics and activities, and making a positive impact on the community.

Hanna Pohlmann was selected as the first recipient of the Bunz Family Scholarship and was recognized during the BPS Foundation’s Annual Awards Ceremony on April 28.

During her high school experience Hanna was involved with the BHS Dance Team, Key Club, 4-H, St. John’s Youth Group, Circle of Badgers, and more. She was also named the Distinguished Young Woman of Nebraska for 2019.

“I am truly honored to be the first recipient of the Bunz Family Scholarship. Winning this award has introduced me to a honorable man who I look up to for his service, character, and leadership. The award has inspired me to continue my service and leadership into my college education,” Hanna said.

She will be attending the University of Alabama in the fall majoring in Biochemistry (Pre-Med Program) and plans to become a physician.
